To Ourselves

This one’s a rather melancholy love song. Sometimes lovers have to go through certain periods, certain transitions, when the amount of time spent together is very minimal; but knowing that it’s only temporary, that only a short way ahead togetherness lurks, makes the journey more than bearable…

Lyrics:

Hold on to what you’ve always got;
It seems long, but knowing that we’ll never be alone
Should make us happy to be this way,
Then we’ll be happy to be ourselves again.

Hold back when you feel like lashing out.
When it seems bad it’s always good to have a laugh,
‘Cos we’re happy to be this way,
And we’ll be happy to be ourselves again.

Not having the patience for what seems like an endless war is hard.
Whilst tending to the call you might see through it all and laugh.

The nights get brushed aside to clarify
That the days apart won’t scar our hearts.
‘Cos underneath it all is a subtle permanence which lasts.
